What Does Rosemary And Clove Hair Oil Work For? (And What Does It Not Work For?)

I started selling Rosemary & Clove Oil on WhatsApp two months ago, and ever since, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about what it does for hair.

“Will it regrow my front hair?” “Will it stop my baldness?” “Will it make my hair longer?” “Will it stop my itchy scalp?”

The summary of all these questions is, “Exactly what does rosemary and clove hair oil work for?”

As someone who has used rosemary and clove oil for over 1 year, blogged about hair for over 4 years, and has almost finished her Complete Trichology Course, let me break it down to you below!

Seeing “itchiness and flakiness” on both sides? Don’t worry, I explained why below. Keep reading!

What does rosemary and clove hair oil work for?

what does rosemary and clove hair oil work for
Rosemary and clove oil
  • Stimulate hair growth
  • Regrow your front hair
  • Stop itchiness and flakiness caused by dryness
  • Seal moisture in your hair
  • Help your hair fight breakage
  • Make your scalp healthier
  • Restore shine to your hair

Now, let me explain and back up each claim!

1. Stimulate Hair Growth

If you’re into hair growth treatments, you probably know minoxidil oil already. It’s a popular oil for growing hair with proven effectiveness, but scary side effects.

This study compared rosemary oil with minoxidil oil by testing it on people who had alopecia (hair loss). The result after 6 months?

Rosemary oil proved just as effective as minoxidil. Even better, it didn’t cause as much itching as minoxidil while still getting the job done.

Add that to clove, which has eugenol, and fenugreek, which has protein and iron, and you know there’s good reason to conclude that rosemary and clove oil stimulate hair growth.

2. Regrow Your Front Hair

I’m not sure why I made this a separate point (probably for emphasis?), but it’s basically the same explanation as the above.

If you’ve lost your front hair due to tight hairstyles over time, poor scalp health, or chemical/heat damage, rosemary and clove oil will regrow your edges and bring them back to life!

The key is massaging your scalp with it thrice weekly.

3. Stop Scalp Itchiness/Flakiness…

…when it is caused by dryness.

Dryness is one of the common causes of an itchy, flaky scalp.

If your scalp is itchy and gives off small, white flakes, rosemary and clove oil can help soothe it.

Rosemary helps calm irritation, while clove’s antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties make your scalp feel relieved almost immediately.

Pair that with a good moisturizing routine, and you’ll say bye to your itchy scalp soon enough.

4. Seal Moisture In Your Hair

Sealing in moisture is as important as moisturising itself.

Rosemary and clove oil is an amazing sealant, which means it helps your hair hold on to moisture for longer.

When you apply it after using a water-based product, it helps your hair stay softer, smoother, and less prone to dryness throughout the day.

For your scalp, it supplements natural sebum and improves health.

5. Fights Breakage & Saves Hair Length

“My hair is not growing again.” No, your hair is always growing.

What’s happening is that your hair is breaking more than it is growing, so you can’t see visible growth anymore.

Rosemary and clove oil strengthen the hair shaft, which helps your strands stay firm and less fragile.

Clove contains eugenol and antioxidants that support stronger hair fibers, while rosemary boosts circulation to the follicles so your new growth comes in healthier.

This results in less breakage, and ultimately longer hair.

6. Improve Hair And Scalp Health

Slowly but steadily, rosemary and clove oil will make your scalp and hair healthier. I make mine with rosemary, clove, and fenugreek infused in coconut oil and olive oil.

Each of these ingredients has beautiful nutrients for excellent hair health.

7. Restores Shine To Hair

If your hair has been looking dull or lifeless, rosemary and clove oil will bring back its glow. It coats your strands lightly, smoothing the cuticles and reflecting more light.

Whether you wear your hair natural, relaxed, or braided, this shine boost always shows. The best part is that it makes your hair shinier without making it greasy or heavy.

What Rosemary And Clove Oil Will Not Do For Your Hair

Now, let’s get to the bitter truth you must know.

need to hear what rosemary and clove oil will not do for hair

Rosemary and clove oil WILL NOT:

  • Grow your hair longer in one week
  • Grow your front hair where hair has never existed
  • Stop itchiness and flakiness caused by dandruff
  • Moisturize your hair
  • Singlehandedly stop your hair from breaking

1. Grow Your Hair Longer In One Week

Honestly, no hair product will do this. It just doesn’t work that way.

And that’s on period.

2. Grow Your Front Hair Where Hair Has Never Existed

Hair grows out of the follicles. If follicles are not present in a certain spot, ain’t no way hair is gonna grow there.

There are different types of hairlines, and rosemary and clove oil cannot change your natural hairline or grow hair in places where hair has never existed. If an area never had follicles to begin with, regrowth is simply not possible.

Also, some types of hair loss are so advanced that the follicles are already scarred (smooth, shiny skin with no pores). In that case, too, oils won’t bring the hair back.

3. Stop Itching/Flakiness…

…when it is caused by dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis. Oil multiplies the fungus that causes dandruff.

So, if your scalp flakes and itches because of dandruff, rosemary and clove oil (or any other hair oil) will not solve it. In fact, it’ll likely make it worse.

Flakes caused by dandruff are usually larger, yellowish/white, and oily.

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is characterized by oiliness, so obviously, hair oils are not the solution.

4. Moisturize Your Hair

Hair oils are not moisturizers themselves. Instead, they help seal in moisture. So if your hair is dry and frizzy, don’t expect rosemary and clove oil alone to moisturize your hair.

First, apply a leave-in conditioner or moisturizer to your hair, then apply the oil to seal in that moisture. That’s how it works!

5. Singlehandedly Stop Your Hair From Breaking

Hair breakage is caused by different factors. Sometimes, it’s even a combination of factors that causes your hair to break.

Rosemary and clove oil will help, but it’s not the only thing you’ll need.
